So if you’ve ever watched the movie Holes you would have a visual of my last week πŸ™‚ We’ve been moving dirt! I’ve got a new nickname: the Beast. Yup, I’ve always wanted to be a Beast when I grow up – NOT! lol But I know the term is meant as a compliment so I apreciate it. I love to push myself to the limit and tire myself to the point of dropping over. Thankfully this month I have plenty of opportunity to do just that! We are moving dirt, doing concrete work, painting, and making bricks!

We also had the opportunity to go to a day care (which is run by Inca Link). We put on a hilarious Daniel in the Lions den Skit for the kidos. I was a lioness πŸ™‚

Inca Link is the mission organization we are working with here in Peru. The day care was just the first step to the big mission they have in mind. Once the day care was up and running, as it is now, they would be able to start the Children’s home/orphanage that was their ultimate goal. It’s really neat how Gods hand was at work paving the way for this home to be built. For the same price, Inca link was able to get a property, that is 10x the size of the one they were originally looking at. Absolutally a God thing! And now with the extra land the dream for this Children’s home is for it to be self supporting. They will eventually build an adventure camp on the property. The adventure camp sounds crazy awesome to me, and I may just have to come back to Peru to try it out πŸ˜‰

The orphanage we are building will eventually house 72 children who need a home, love, and Jesus in their lives. But get this, the vision is to not only house, feed, and love the kids but to also prepare them for their future when food and shelter will not be provided freely. Inca link plans to have a trade school on sight where the young people will be taught baking, shoe making (which is big in this area), carpentry, and music.
Knowing the vision for this Children’s home makes shoveling dirt and sloping concrete all over myself all the more worth it!

Life here in Peru is quite different then in Ecuador.
I have a BED!
We’re living in a much nicer home with tile (instead of dusty concrete) floors.
My team is sharing courters with another team (Fireproof).
We have english speaking contacts!

Our little town of El Porvneir is like the poorest area around. All the roads are packed down (or not so packed) sand. We have electricity here at our home but the immediate skyline is dark when the sun goes down. The houses in our town are all the same dull brown, made out of the same sandy clay bricks. Honestly I feel like I’m in the Middle east. It’s cloudy most the time, but when the sky is clear and I can see for a ways and it is really beautiful. We are surrounded by bare sandy mountains, and little hills covered in humble homes.

Please be praying that we all have strength and energy to work each day. Many members of my team have back problems which are causing them a lot of pain with all this manual labor.

Oh, and I went Surfing πŸ™‚ Oh yeah!!! It was fun! I got up like 5 times and thoroughly enjoyed it!
