Adam = Man
Seth = Appointed
Enosh = Mortal
Kenan = Sorrow
Mahalalel = The Blessed God
Jared = Shall come down
Enoch = Teaching
Methuselah = His death shall bring
Lamech = The Despairing
Noah = Comfort (or Rest)

Put it all together and we have:
Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest."

This is so exciting to me! Here hidden in the genealogy of the first 10 men, who make up the bloodline to Jesus, we have a prophecy of the gospel. The message of salvation, through Jesus Christ, has been being proclaimed right from the beginning! There is no denying it; the Bible is a marvelous work of supernatural engineering!
Every number, every place, every name, every detail, every jot and tittle, is there for our learning, our discovery, and our amazement. Without a doubt, our God is an AWESOME God!
