We have been in the beautiful town of Jeffreys Bay now for over two weeks. We are staying in the cute and lovely log cabinish mission house of Global Challenge. Such a Christ centered and community minded bunch! So much more I could say about what I see modeled here of the body of Christ and His people living together, but for now I’ll just sum it up as beautiful.
The Mission House is on the far left. I’m taking the photo from the Global Leadership Academy school on campus. The school building is also the Mission headquarters and the Church meeting place.
Did ya’ll know that South Africa gets cold? I kinda did but now I really do lol. Our first couple of nights in the mission house it went down into the low 40’s. My toes were cold lol. South Africa is coming out of winter and into spring, but it’s been unseasonably cold.
And the wind wow, felt like it could blow me off my feet at times! Gusts of 50MPH.
And the rain! But thank God for the rain, even though it was coming into our home quite a bit. Jeffreys Bay is now finally out of their 9 year drought. They were on water restrictions for such a long time and now they have enough water! Praise the Lord! And we were here to experience it!
South Africa experiences these things called “load shedding” which basically means the power goes out for the next 1 to 4 hours between one to three times a day. We’ve had a number of flashlight lit team times as. a result, which is fun in its own way 🙂
Levi and I killed an unidentified snake this evening. Our neighbor came over to ask for help, they had trapped it under a bucket but were too scared to do anything else. We had a few screams, especially as the light went out right as we picked the bucket up off the snake… but I still managed to pin it with my mop stick and Levi smashed its head in with a rock.
The last few weeks have been packed. We’ve been a part of so many events, and different ministry opportunities. I’ll post some pictures with short descriptions to give a little overview.
The first weekend here our team helped out with a Soccer tournament held on the GLA campus for all the local schools.
Half of the team has been working at Timeon, mostly in the garden planting and growing vegetables to be given to the families that the ministry serves. Timeon builds and distributes equipment for underprivileged families of those with Cerebral Palsy. Timeon grows food to give and also goes into the community to teach mothers how to start their own gardens. Our team has also been able to help out in the workshop where the specialty equipment is made.
The other half of the team go to an after school program called Beats and Books. Local students come to receive help with their school work and musical tutoring, But most importantly discipleship in their faith.
Our second weekend in Jeffreys Bay we became Special Agents of our Commander in Chief the Lord Jesus Christ. We led the kids program with fun activities as we pursued the Mission Unstoppable theme of Acts 1:8 “And you will receive Power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you. And you will be my witnesses…” It was a fun weekend with the kids of missionaries around South Africa!
Tomorrow we are becoming the catering crew at a wedding for a loved member of the Global community and his American bride. Such fun!
